It’s hard to deny it: the world feels loud right now.
Political unrest. Violence. Polarization. Endless headlines designed to shock your nervous system before you’ve even finished your morning tea or coffee. The barrage can feel relentless, and over time it can wear on your mind, heart, and body.
So the question becomes: How do you stay mentally well without losing your center?
How do you remain present, grounded, and clear when the external world feels anything but?
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, my answer remains the same:
Hold to your practice.
And if you don’t have a practice yet, the next step is to simple build one.
“Hold to Your Practice” Isn't a Flip Response
When I say hold to your practice, I’m not offering a spiritual quip or a way to avoid reality. I'm not suggesting that you pretend things aren’t happening or for you to spiritually bypass real pain and injustice.
Holding to your practice is a pathway to inner stability.
Your practice nourishes the very core from which you live your life. When that core is tended, strengthened, and supported, you don’t spiral so easily into fear or terror. You know, deeply that you have yourself. And that whatever you meet in this life, you will meet it with yourself intact.
The grounded you.
The connected you.
And when your center is stable, chaos doesn’t take up residence inside you.
Stability Creates Clarity
When you’re rooted in practice, something subtle and powerful happens.
You can meet confusion without becoming confused.
You can meet disagreement without fracturing inwardly.
You can meet difficult relationships with more steadiness rather than reactivity.
You can meet loss without crumbling.
When fear arises—and it will—you’re able to soothe yourself. You can remind yourself, I am not in imminent danger in this moment. This gentle reminder brings the nervous system back into regulation.
Remember: Grounding gives you choice.
And choice allows you to respond rather than react.
Inner Stability Changes How You Move Through Loss
Practice doesn’t remove loss. That’s not its job.
Loss is part of embodied life.
But regular engagement with yoga meditation, breathwork, and yoga philosophy gives you the strength to stay present when loss arrives. Instead of fragmenting or abandoning yourself, or others, you can meet the moment with who you are.
What I mean is, you stay whole or rather connected with your sense of wholeness.
And being able to remain with yourself in the hardest moments is no small thing.
Patience: Mega Skill
Something else grows naturally when you stay close to your practice: patience.
Not the kind of patience that leads to passivity or getting stuck.
Not the kind that suppresses truth or silences your instincts.
But the kind of patience that gives you enough space to see the whole board.
This kind of patience lets you pause long enough to determine the best next step. It allows wisdom to lead rather than emotion. It keeps you from making choices driven solely by fear or urgency.
This is not a soft skill.
This my friends is a power skill.
You Don’t Have to Do Everything
You don’t need to practice every yogic technique.
I recommend choosing two practices.
For example:

Meditation and mantra

Asana and pranayama
-
Meditation and yogic contemplation
When paired, these practices can complement each other and help you develop real ground in embodiment, not just ideas about stability, but lived stability.
The World Will Do What It Does
The world will continue to move according to its wisdom, or its lack thereof.
You can join the chaos, or you can support inner peace through practice.
Inner peace doesn’t mean disengagement. You’re not putting your head in the sand while chanting OM.
You can still stand for what matters to you. You still engage with causes that align with your conscience.
The difference is that you do so from a nourished center, not from inner chaos.
And what you cultivate inwardly doesn’t stay limited, it expands outward.
Inner ease affects your relationships, your choices, and the way you show up in the world.
There is a ripple from your inner roundedness that expands more than you realize.
